Early Laundry Facilities II
The 1940’s is when the term “laundromat” came into fashion. It is the combination of the words “laundry” and “automatic”. The term originally came from Westinghouse to describe the machines that they made, but it soon became synonymous with the places people went to wash their clothes.
By World War II there were laundromats in just about every city. The first coin operated washing machine was patented in 1957 which revolutionized the laundromat industry. Employees were no longer needed if the customers could run the machines themselves. They could also be open 24 hours a day. This caused the laundromat business to soar in the 1960s and 1970s.
Today laundromats are still in great demand. Most include modern features such as wi-fi and laundromat apps to make using a laundromat even easier than before. Most are now offering laundry services like wash and fold. This allows the customer to not have to worry about doing laundry at all.
Easy Kleen offers wash and fold laundry service. If you have never tried this service, it is a wonderful time saver and allows you to relieve some of the stress it takes to run a household.
